One of the famous big road race of mid-2025 was the SCORE Marathon by AIA Vitality which happened on 13 July in Putrajaya’s Presint 3. This well organised event offered 5km, 10km, 21km and full marathon (42km) categories. With the theme “Conquer Your Next Challenge”, thousands of runners from elite competitors to weekend joggers filled Putrajaya’s scenic hilly course under sunny skies.
- Men’s 42K winner – First-time marathoner Sivaneshwaran Gunasegaran (a national track athlete) charged away in the final stretch to win in 2:48:08. He later said he just aimed to break 3 hours, so this was a thrilling upset.
- Women’s 42K winner – Malaysia’s Lee Siok Chin claimed the ladies’ title in 3:17:17. Vietnamese swimmer Vu Khanh Linh was runner-up (3:21:54), and Diana Qistina Redza third (3:35:53).
- Record turnout – Banyak gilerrr orang! Over 33,000 runners from 48 countries took part – the largest field ever for this event. The one that gonna challenge this surely KLSCM which come in the Oct later. By the way, the half-marathon and fun-run waves made the roads lively all morning.
- Local highlights – Terengganu Cycling Team’s riders filled the men’s podium (Rosli Nur Aiman won, Zariff was second), and local stars such as ex-minister Khairy Jamaluddin tackled the 21K (he finished ~2:44), I believed before this, he is much faster, maybe he is too occupied nowadays.
All in all, Putrajaya delivered a festival-like running weekend. From hard-core marathoners to families in the 5K fun run, everyone had a personal “mountain” to climb. As local sportsman, I love that the event had a friendly vibe – food trucks, music and cheering crews – making the painful hills a little easier. It was a memorable race and a reminder that we can “conquer our next challenge” one step at a time.
Adios and Assalamualaikum.
